Posted - 03/13/2012 : 10:31:36 AM Have a strange issue with a users XP laptop. He loads a fixed IP Address (192.168.x.x) on the NIC to connect to test equipment on the production floor. The past few days he hasn't been able to connect to the test equipment. So I took a look at the laptop. I did an IPCONFIG /ALL and it looks like the network card has 2 IP Addresses, the 192.168.x.x IP Address and a 169.x.x.x IP Address that show up on the same NIC. When I go to the properties of the NIC, there is only one IP Address entered. I looked for the the Alternate Configuration Tab on the TCP/IP setting of the NIC (assuming that was the cause of the second IP Address), but there was no Alternate Configuration Tab to load a second IP Address.
I tried doing a release/renew and a flushdns, etc., but it didn't do anything to remove the second IP Address. I'm assuming that because the second IP Address is the 169 local IP Address, it's preventing the laptop from communicating externally from the laptop.
Any ideas on how to clear the second IP Address?

Posted - 03/13/2012 : 4:11:59 PM Joe, forgot about this. Funny that I actually wrote a script to do this a few years ago so I wouldn't have to remember the steps. Of course that probably made it easier to me forget about using it. lol
