hi.

I'd like to start using MDT if only so everything is all stored in one place, I have a task sequencer and drivers can be managed.

I don't really want to use a customised WIM though. Is it possible to simply specify the install.wim straight off the install set and use a post install task sequence to do some minor customizations?

You can absolutely use the default Windows 7 image. It will just take a bit longer to install (because of microsoft updates).
