I need to replace my HD and restore from my . I am runing WHS SP2 but my Computer Reststor CD is from the original set of WHS CDs. When I start the PC from this CD (using Mark's instructions @ http://www.whshelp.com/articles/WHS%20backup%20after%20hard%20drive%20fails.htm) it finds a 1 net device and 6 storage devices so I think it has loaded the network driver. But whe it looks for the server it can't find it. Both the PC abd server are on the same router and subnet. My WHS is not named server so I tryed the manual search for Whs4bob. my server name, it says there is "A network error has occurred." and says to make sure the WHS is power on. It is on and I can loginto it from another PC on the same network. From the WHS I can get to the internet. The message also says to make sure the network connection is active but I don't know how to do that for the PC running the Restor CD?

Do I need a newer Restor CD for SP2? If so how can I get one?

Is the problem something else? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob...

The restore completed over night and everything is back to normal. I may never know why it did not work but the older CD and firewall may have contributed.

My thanks to this group for assistance. I readly beleive that just writing problems helps define and resolve issues. And thanks to Mark for his site that provinded the how to steps to do this.

The restore started!!! I don't know what I did different. It found the server automatically even though is is not names SERVER. I have lined up all 5 partitions from the 320 drive backup and the restore says it will take 4 hours and 53 minutes, opps it just changed to 6 hours?? I will post status later, may not be until morning.

Thanks and wish me luck!

Thanks. I turned the firewall off and I downloaded the newest version of the Computer Restore CD (10/7/09). I still get the same messages. It can not fine the WHS.

I tried putting in the name of another PC instead of whs4bob and it fails as well. I checked the router and the port for the PC is flashing but that doesn't really tell me anything.

Anyone have another idea?

Bob,

First off, welcome to the forum.

Have you checked that the firewall is turned off on the WHS. It could be there from the server or from AntiVirus you have installed.
If you log onto the WHS and open a command line and type services.msc
Check for Windows firewall set to running and/ or you antivirus software having a firewall running.
