I've progressed to the point of putting the VHD on the target computer but once that is complete and I reboot it to create the snapshot it just keeps cycling through that section and never boots into the image. I'm guessing it is something with the bootmanager but I don't know how to correct it.

Have you removed the bootable media? Are you sure the image.vhd (with that exact name) is on the proper disk/partition?
