Posted - 08/12/2004 : 1:10:00 PM Let's keep a list of known problems with sp2.
I'll start the bidding at:
Allen Bradly PCL software. This software is used to program PCL's on packaging and other "automated" equipment.
We received word from our vendor today to AVOID sp2 until they come up with a fix. |

Posted - 09/09/2009 : 5:00:43 PM The ALPS MD1000 printer driver included with Windows XP will no longer work in SP2 or SP3, and Microsoft offers no updated driver on Windows Update. Other ALPS printers may also be affected, but I only have an MD1000.
The ALPS MD1000 printer driver for Windows 2000 from ALPS will work with XP SP2/3, but it is hard to find since the driver was never offered for download by ALPS.

I'm getting this error in the Remote Install application:

The rest of InocuateIT is working fine; the clients are receiving the updates, and nothing else seems to be out of order.
CA (once again) doesn't have any good KB articles on this.
Any ideas out there?
You have to make sure that on XP clients, port 42511 is opened on Windows Firewall. For the complete list of prerequisites: http://spaces.msn.com/members/gunas01/Blog/cns!1p3xwYXIB5Did6eMdBvxqD6Q!181.entry |

All can be done w/ Group Policy. No "PC visit" necessary... |

Yup. Here's how to do it for those that are not familiar with Group Policy or the new Windows Firewall: http://ebrux.mvps.org/xpsp2/XPsp2withIPOfficeApplications.htm
Hope this helps. |

There is a slick batch file included that uses NETSH to open the 6 ports that it needs. Even if you don't use Avaya, you may want to review this script....

At this point, any vendor who has not tested/certified with SP12 just has no excuses. The beta was easilly available. The pack has been on general release for months now. These junkware vendors really tick me off.

I have to shut off the firewall, do the install and then turn it back on.
Then all "SEEMS" ok.
We will see.

Did you see alot of errors (via Event Viewer) after this install? I have set it to exclude EDB, LOG, files etc. But I am still recieving errors from Symantec trying to access the extensions that I have excluded.
I have the users in their own folder as is the servers and one for Admin.
This is not a major concern, yet. I have to sift through all of this stuff when I am looking at the logs in the morning.

Posted - 09/16/2004 : 5:04:17 PM Yes, the computer was rebooted between uninstall and install.
I pretty much knew the NIC wasn't bad but to determine that for sure I replaced it and had the same problem. I will try to play with it tomorrow to determine the cause. |

Posted - 09/16/2004 : 4:42:16 PM mairving,
I don't think your NIC would be bad if it was working prior to the removal of Norton. You may be creating another unknown condition here. Did you reboot the PC after uninstalling Norton before installing AVG? |
| mairving |
Posted - 09/16/2004 : 4:28:39 PM Still investigating this one to see if it is XPSP2 or other. Installed SP2, ran for a week without issue. Removed Norton AV 2003. Installed AVG Free Edition. Took ages to load Windows, then screen would lock up. Rebooted several times with same scenario. Booted into safe mode, uninstalled AVG and turned firewall off. Rebooted into Windows. Windows loaded fine but my NIC was missing from Device Manager. Rebooted still no NIC. Replaced NIC under assumption that it was bad. Booted into Windows. Hardware wizard comes up telling me it has found new NIC and installs drivers and tells me that my new hardware is ready for use. Go into device manager and there is no NIC. Rebooted and no nic.
Haven't played with it much since then but kind of odd and not sure if it was uninstalling Norton or SP2 or the combo of the two. |

nah, anyway i got it. its my GPO and why it's showing as "not configured" prolly because of zonealarm. it's suppose to be enabled for domain PC's which i am. |

Depends. If you're a domain member then it won't appear, but that doesn't sound like this. Perhaps a software restriction policy?
weird thing is i can run it manually from CP. why does it need to run as as service then? would having zonealarm prevent it from starting? |

Symantec Antivirus Corporate edition 9.x will not show in the security center. There is now a fix on the symantec site.
I have that edition and I cannot find a patch or update on the symantec website to do this. Can you give me the link? |

Posted - 09/07/2004 : 04:33:21 AM in applying SP2, i get 1807 in the event viewer that says somewhere that:
Event Type: Information Event Source: SecurityCenter Event Category: None Event ID: 1807 Date: 07/09/04 Time: 10:38:34 AM User: N/A Computer: XXXXX Description: The Security Center service has been stopped. It was prevented from running by a software group policy.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
following the link produces nothing. is this a normal behaviour with an XP SP2? |

That's odd; I use a fw800 PC Card on my laptop and SP2 hasn't affected it as far as I can see. I wonder if it's his chipset.
Check out this article over at Tom's Hardware -> http://www6.tomshardware.com/howto/20040823/index.html Looks like XPSP2 firewire drivers were deliberated throttled down to 100Mhz.
