An XP SP3 computer is logging the following errors. I believe this is because we are using the new features available in 2008 GPOs to enforce some service settings. We have deployed windows update KB943729 to allow for these extensions however it doesn't appear to have worked in this example.
The Group Policy client-side extension Group Policy Services failed to execute.
The client-side extension could not remove computer policy settings for 'Default Domain Policy {31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}' because it failed with error code '0x8007000d The data is invalid.'
Running GP Results results in an exclaimation mark ! next to Component Status which says:
Group Policy Services Failed 30/11/2009 12:45:25 PM Group Policy Services failed due to the error listed below. The data is invalid. Additional information may have been logged. Review the Policy Events tab in the console or the application event log for events between 30/11/2009 12:45:25 PM and 30/11/2009 12:45:25 PM.
Do you know why this is happening or how I could find out more?
Michelle- It sounds like the GP Preferences setting for service configuation is corrupted or not available. If the problem is the former, probably the best think you can do is remove the setting from the existing GPO and create a new GPO to define it. If the latter, then you might want to run gpotool.exe from the Server 2003 Support Tools -- it will tell you if the SYSVOL part of your GPO (which is where these settings are stored) is inconsistent across your DCs. In that case, you may have an FRS replication problem.
