I have a page viewer webpart that is linked to another external website. That first page is a logon page for that external web site. It brings the page up just fine to logon. When you enter your credentials it just says loading.... and hangs. If you logon to this external website without going through Sharepoint everything works fine. Has anyone seen this?

Boy, this sounds suspiciously a LOT like something that would show up on the SharePoint exam ... (see my other post in this section about exams yesterday).
Anyhoo ...
So I'm trying to envision what you've got. So you've used a regular page viewer webpart that goes out to something like Gmail, should allow the user to put in his\her password, and then theoretically it should display the results of the logged-in website, but just on the webpart instead of a full browser page.
I haven't tried anything like that, but could give it a whirl today.
Do your users have to pass thru a web filtering system? Either a proxy server or something like websense? If yes, do you have any way that you could manage to try it with the proxy\filtering off? Was the webpart one that was bunndled with SP, or is it a custom code solution? |

Yes, that is exactly what we are trying to do. It would be just like if you displayed gmail and when you logged in it just said loading... BTW, it does say loading... when you do it in a full browser as well, but it eventually takes you to the second page.
No we are not passing thru a web filtering system and this is just the basic webpart delivered with SP. Thanks for any help. |

Well, I just tried it out (hadn't used page viewer before, seems like a nifty little web part!).
If I use page viewer to point at google, no issues.
If I use it to point at www.gmail.com, with all default settings (nothing special set on the web part regarding modality or appearance or anything), then as soon as I bring up the main page, it redirects the entire *bleep* page over to gmail! I couldn't even get back in to Edit Mode to fix it! Grrrr. Used my history to get back to the edit mode. Removed the web part and started over fresh.
Next I tried facebook. (Trying ot think of regular websites that don't give you much of anything before logging in.) We are passing thru websense, so it gave me the typical disclaimer of using "quota time" which I agreed to and entered that password fine. When the FB main page came up, I clicked inside the web part as if to log in, and it immediatel redirected the entire browser page over to facebook (as I had seen with gmail prviously).
Second time trying to open the page, I was already using my quota tie, so no websense message. FB was there, but all gray. Very weird. The second I click inside the web part as if to log on, it redirected my whole browser page again.
I'm not sure this is telling you anything at all, but that's the behavior I'm seeing! Maybe your situation has to do with the browser attempts to pop or redirect?

Yes, the results are very erratic on my side as well. I may need to get a hardcore Sharepoint developer involved with this as Sharepoint isn't my strongest skillset. Thanks for your efforts in your lab! |

Ok, I have an update. We aren't sure why, but we got past that initial "loading..." screen. Once it logged us on and went into the second page of the site we got a whole bunch of the "loading.." at certain parts of the page where there are supposed to be dashboards and menu's. One thing that I did notice is that each of those loading messages are sitting where the site is trying to load JSP pages.

This may seem like it's completely out of left field, but if the machine has Office 2007 on it ... If you go to insert a clip art from an office or web collection, does that work OK? (insert, clip art, enter a search term, then search in = office collection & web collection only, clear checks for everywhere and my collections) Does the online help work OK? (press F1, in the window that comes up, make sure it says "connected to office online" in lower right - if not, click to change until it does, do a quick search of some sort) Does the Research\Lookup function work OK? (type a word on the page, right click it and choose look up, a research pane should show up ... does it return results or does it hang?)
If any\all these things have issues, then it may be an indication of network throttling just not wanting to let enough traffic thru in large enough chunks. We at one time had to adjust our MTU settings to fix all these symptoms in our office apps.

That all seems to work ok. That is an interesting perspective on this though. I will keep that one in memory for future reference.

FYI.. Once you get into the site, you receive an error of "No NavUserIDS". I'm trying to find information this, but it mostly looks like a generic error for JSP or PHP or something. |

Well, I guess I'm out of ideas, not that I really had that many to begin with ...
Could it be something as simple as type of browser being used and its security settings? Like make sure both the sharepoint site and the remote site are listed in the browser's trusted zone? And make sure it's Internet Explorer and not another browser ... |

| I tried this with multiple web browsers. At one point I had all adjustable security turned down as well. |
