"We are finalizing our SCCM Central and Primary site server configurations for the upcoming hardware upgrades and have a few questions about the SQL level we want to use.
The current plan is to upgrade to SQL server 2008 R2 ENT x64. I have done a lot of reading, and the upgrade path from SQL 2005 ENT SP2 x86 is supported. I am building a test setup in the virtual lab in our main lab site to fully test the planned migration.
The SCCM will be migrated by restoring an SCCM 2007 R2 SP2 backup from the legacy server running W2K3 STD SP2 X86. SQL 2008 will already be installed on the new server prior to the migration.
Are there any gotchas with SQL 2008 R2 that we should be aware of when migrating the SCCM database, etc. This would be a good time to discuss the process while we have the lab available. The legacy W2K3 system is up and running in the lab, with 2 SCCM clients. The new system is partially built, and I hope to have the basic OS/SQL configurations done today."
