I have rediscovered this bit courtesy of one of my many sons and I wonder how I could have forgotten about it. You see, I have several computers on, under, and around my desk and I use two or more at a time. A KVM helps a little, but often I am working on some project or another and there is just not enough monitor real estate to effectively manage that and also do online research, watch A-Team re-runs on Netflix at the same time with any efficiency.
Behold the power of Synergy! With no more than my local LAN connection, I can have my desk PC with one monitor and my laptop with its own plus an external monitor and I can use one keyboard and mouse to control them all - seamlessly. They can even share clipboard content.
Theoretically, I could collect a few more monitors and rack 'em all up in a wall 3 high and 5 wide and connect every machine in the house in one wondrous array of endless entertainment and productivity all merged into one glorious... Ahem. Excuse me. I have to go do some work now. Sorry. I got a little distracted.
