| On a positive note, I have not even looked at a WINS console in over 3 years. |

And while Windows System Resource Manager is presented as DEPRECATED, WINS is not.
I supposed NetBIOS is still around and sharing permissions.
Why would we need sharing permissions?
Wouldn't the NTFS permissions (under the security tab) be more than enough?
I know that makes for good questions on MS cert tests.
But I believe current recommendation is to grant everyone full control for the sharing permissions and regulate access with NTFS permissions.
So why retain sharing permissions?
Is it so ingrained in the OS that it would be that much of a pain to get rid of them?

FWIW: I actually have found several instances where the flexibility of Share + NTFS security was extremely useful, but it could just be me. |

| My post pointed out that while WINS is not dead, it is not very relevant as most everyone here (hopefully!) has phased it out except in rare scenarios. |

| It's interesting that you felt the best way to make that point was by editorializing about a talk show host, who ironically is a big Mac proponent. |

| I wasn't concerning myself with the "best way" - the blowhard was in the news at the time the thread was being written and came to mind. |

For someone so irrelevant he sure seems to have struck a nerve.
Before this thread gets out of hand though…
I’m a conservative, and I have no qualms in saying so. I listen to Rush, Hannity, and yes even Glenn Beck. I am perfectly fine with whatever that may make you think of me. I know my beliefs and I will stand by them.
That said, THIS IS AN IT FORUM. If you want to discuss politics, there are thousands of places on the Internet to do so. Heck, even the Off Topic forum here is fair game I guess. But it is incredibly annoying to be reading a thread that has nothing to do with politics and come across a post like yours.
Seriously…unless it’s the never-ending PC vs. Mac holy war, let’s keep the political commentary separate from the technical content.

Ok guys, lets all take a deep breath and relax.
James you make a good point however, I am sure Wes meant nothing by it and would never have meant to offend you, or anyone else, in any manner.
So lets please let this thread get back on topic.
Thanks in advance... |
