Hi
I'm hoping someone can help with the following problem.
Our current Exchange 2003 server is running low on disk space and we are currently migrating users to our new Exchange 2003 server. All mailboxes work etc and email is flowing. However from the outside world we cant access emails using webmail on the new Exchange 2003 server only on the old one. Now the old server is only going to last a day or 2 and I really need help to get it working.
We have a DMZ with exchange 2003 which is the front-end server and it appears this acts as directing traffic to the old exchange server from outside the network. How do I get it to look at the new server or better still both?
DMZ OLDEXCHANGE NEWEXCHANGE
Hope this makes sense and someone can help. My exchange knowledge isnt that great.
Thanks
Mark

| I've only worked with a single E2K3 server, essentially to practice migrations to E2K10, so the best I can do is bump this in hope that Nathan or Jetze, or someone more familiar with E2K3 will chime in. |

To try to understand, is the following right? You have an Exchange 2003 Server in the DMZ as a front end server. You have 2 back end mailbox servers, Old and New, in the LAN.
Next, is OWA working internally on the new server? Is OWA working from the DMZ?

| Thanks for reply yes dmz is front end and webmail to both back end servers work internally. Externally webmail only works to the orginal server not the new one. Will have a look at the document. |

Hi Again, still struggling to get Webmail working on the new backend server.
It seems to get a bit further and i suspect it could be a DNS problem but not sure where to fix.
when i type in the external ip address/exchange and access a mailbox on the original backend it keeps the external ip address/exchange/mailbox name.
However when I do it to the new backend it says http://exchange server_name.domain.co.uk/exchange

Have you opened the same ports between your DMZ and the new Exchange server as you already have open to the old Exchange server?Cheers Nathan

Thanks can you advise where abouts to check the ports. The standard places we have checked and matched the orginal server, but it appears we are missing something somehwere.
thanks |

This is a good place to start.

Internally webmail works fine to either back end server. From the dmz we can telnet to both servers on port 25. Tried browser on dmz front end but it doesnt work due to restrictions.
I'm confused why our orginal back end server stills work externally but the new one resolves the internal name. |

Port Query GUI will help with the ports - http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=24009
When you say resolves, resolves from where, inside the LAN, the DMZ or the WAN (Outside the firewall/ router)
Technically the front end should be aware the mailbox has moved and redirect to the new server. If the ports aren't configured to allow the traffic, through the DMZ firewall then you have a problem.
When you try to browse externally to OWA for a moved mailbox, what are you seeing?

Basically externally we connect to the firewalls facing ip address/exhange You are then prompted for username password if you enter details of the old exchange server it display without problems.
If you login with details for the moved mailbox to new server it changes the link to server servername.domian.co.uk then oops page cannot be displayed'.
Thanks I will take a look at what you suggested.
