I just installed Windows 2008 SP2 as a VMware Workstation 7.1.5 guest in 10 minutes.
I timed it using the Windows clock of the laptop (physical host):
19:48 to 19:58 (exactly) - or 7:48 to 7:58 if you prefer.
System rebooted at 19:54 - after decompressing files and all that.
That's from the time I clicked "Power on this virtual machine" to the moment I am prompted to change the admin password when W2K8 boots inside the virtual machine console.
That's amazing! SSD becoming mainstream is one of the best things that's happening right now, I love them. Unfortunately the larger capacity types are a bit expensive still and you need to keep away from the SandForce controllers. But still, SSD is great for almost all purposes. I have an 80 GB SSD in my wifes netbook to make the performance avarage instead of teribly slow, and running one in my notebook for super quick boot times and faster working applications. Love them!
