I have a computer with 2 hard drives. I boot to the install DVD and it installs successfully. Then I boot to the same DVD again and it installs successfully but now I have Windows installed on the C drive and the D drive. This however does not happen every time. Sometimes it will work correct and wipe the original Windows installation and re-install.

I am installing Windows 7 using media (DVD) created with MDT 2010. In my task sequence under New Computer Only - Format and Partition Disk, the disk number is set to 0. For the Volume the % is 100 the Make this a boot partition is checked, and the variable is set to C. Under Install - Install Operating System the disk number is set to 0 and partition set to 1.

I came across this thread which seems to explain the problem but not a fix. http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/195718-os-disk-not-disk-0-a.html
Also a link to Microsoft's explanation of the bug http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937251

Anyone have any ideas on how to get around this?

Try upgrading to MDT 2012, they added a lot of fixes for partitioning issues... don't forget to backup your deployment share(s) first though.
