It still amazes me that I've made such friends on here. It's humbling. When I tell people about it they don't believe it - or look at me funny(er). It's literally in all honesty changed my life for the better.
I think I'd be delivering pizzas by now without you guys.
THANK YOU MARK. THANK YOU EVERYONE. SINCERELY.

Thank you all for being great friends! I still have that Windows NT 4.0 book Mark signed for me during this trip with the TechNet folks in Raleigh when he talked about DNS in Windows 2000!

Indeed it's helped me out immensely. All the great people that I've met on here and the wonderful discussions that are had and those that are yet to be. Thank you Mark for for all you've done!!!!
But I do have a question, although it's 10 years for us, how much is that in terms of Internet time |

Likewise James, I still have that TCP/IP book by this guy called Mark Minasi, that I used to pass my NT MCSE test. Glad I went for the hard stuff. On a site called MicrosoftTV ,there were some videos from NT magazine conventions that had some dude with a column called this old PC. He was doing a talk called "How to get your network connected to the internet."
The modem sounds he made with his voice, made it memorable. So when Windows Connections came to town, I registered and took Mark's classes. When he said he had a help forum, I went on line and joined. That was July 7th, 2003. So it's about 9 years for me.
The rest is history. What a ride it has been. I have been able to keep making a living and it seems I've been blessed with what I needed in the form of all you folks.
I was so scared to make my first post. Now I know that we are all so lost in this industry like life boats on the ocean. By "tying up" together we have kept each other afloat and weathered the changes.
For as long as we need to work in this system, it's good to know that there are people who are willing to help one another. Thank you Mark for making this possible.

| My Mark experience started in a hotel conference room in Phoenix in 1999. The talk was on DNS! I was a little later to arrive on the forum front and attending two of the conferences has been so helpful to me. Just "soaking" in the knowledge it's a beautiful thing. Thanks to Mark and everyone else who contributes. |

Took a 2000 MCSE course in 2001. Complained to a fellow student and friend that the course material was bullcrap and I needed something better. "You need Minasi's book" was his swift reply. It weighed a ton but was and still is worth its weight in gold. So many things it has helped me with. I was walking along the river this weekend and bumped into the friend. Time flies and it moves in circles.
Thanks Mark for the forum, it is most appreciated. |

Yes, same here. Specifically, this forum helped me a lot for my first Exchange implementation back in 2009. Nathan and Wes (Pesos) were very helpful in particular.
I also have good memories of all I learned about Active Directory in my discussions with Paul Williams (no longer active here) and Willem.
Although I use other forums, MS Technet for example, there is something about this one that makes participation enjoyable. Even though I have never met (regrettably) anyone here in person, it's almost like you're among old friends, people really willing to give a hand when you need some assistance.
Almost makes you want to get together to celebrate. |

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.
To all you old fogies I'm 6! Sometimes I think I'm 6. What I get from here has helped me get to where I am.
And the visits to Hooters, I blame it all on you guys!
Thanks Mark for a global bunch of friends.

Thanks, all, but I did NOT do the hard work, not most of it at all. In no special order...
Al Degutis did a lot of steering the ship in the first couple years, and Nick took the tiller for another four or so. Willem is one of the three smartest guys I know in the world about AD, and he shares that knowledge and his time generously, while at the same time vigilantly crushing spammers and keeping the forum's signal-to-noise ratio higher than most. (God, do I dread Googling a question only to find myself on one of the social.technet sites.) Aidan was doing cloud before cloud was cool and patiently answers questions about it. A major fashion and glamour photographer answers every dumb question I've got about taking pictures. Several Exchange geniuses (Nathan, Michael B, Wes, and a bunch more... apologies, I don't do Exchange so I don't hang out in that subforum) field a wide variety of frantic and frustrated queries about what is probably Microsoft's most-used and most-complex server software product. People who run or are major linchpins of major consultancies (Adgate, Joseph, Summerlin, Curt, Anthony, Tim and others) somehow find the time to answer a variety of questions. Over the years we've had a couple of big brains in RDP (Christa and Greg Shields -- both of whom have birthdays this week, best wishes to both), major players like Johan in deployment, many virtualization experts from both the Microsoft and VMWare side (Dean, Aidan, so many others), SharePoint (Anne comes to mind offhand, again it's an area I don't do much in so I don't visit that part of the forum), in-house experts (Jerrod, Webster, Bolton, Kane, Wes), scripting geniuses (Claus, Jeff Hicks, Don Jones) and a zillion other people.
I haven't done very much work at all, but I'm grateful to all of you who HAVE done that work... and I apologize to all of the folks who I didn't mention.
I suspect that the Facebooks, the LinkedIns and the Social.Microsoft.whatever folks will make us obsolete at some point, but I'll enjoy the ride until then. Again, many thanks, everyone please stay healthy (and I'll be blogging on that soon<g>.) |

Maybe. I'm not sure. If you're referring to MS Technet, Mark, it's true that in any given area (Exchange for example), you'll have numerically a greater number of experts than you will here. And by "experts" I mean MVPs, MCMs, and MS PSSs.
So I'll get answers in both places, and in very specific areas, like PKI, we may not have the equivalent of a Brian Komar here (don't think he's ever posted?).
On the other hand, there's also a mass of people asking questions and it's easy to get "lost in the shuffle". It's something how in one or two hours your question can end up on page 3 with maybe 2 reads and 0 replies.
And while I like the point system that rewards answers provided to others, I have to smile at some of the moderators who provide a response, sometimes in broken English, and then, even before the original poster confirms the helpfulneess of the reply, mark it as the answer - which lowers the chances of someone else reading the entire post since the problem is apparently solved.
This forum has an advantage of quality. |

| I love you guys. Graduated college in May 2000 and got my first sysadmin job a few months later - was a lot of on-the-job learning and luckily I somehow stumbled across Mark's win2000 book and the rest is history. What a great community!! |

I just looked at my join date and realized it was ten years old when I saw this thread. I used to consider myself technical but now I do more with the management side than the technical side. I stop in to look and learn as much as my schedule allows.
I met Mark at one his training classes and invited him to train all of the tech guys at a University I worked at. Have to say Mark's influence had a direct impact on my career and thanks to this forum I have found answers to obscure questions more times than I can count. Thanks Mark and to everyone else who makes up this board. It really is a great resource to go to.
Happy Anniversary everyone!

I think it's fair to say that this forum changed the life of many. I know it did mine. Mainly because of this forum and thanks to Mark I became an MVP, which landed me more interesting jobs, which finally led to Microsoft taking an interest... and the rest is history.
Talking about history: this is the first post, on july 24th 2002: http://www.minasi.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2 , and it's about the .NET server. Remember that marketing disaster?
Many people from those early days don't come around anymore. It would be nice for a couple of more like pknuth (thanks, Paul) to come by and visit for the anniversary.
Mark, perhaps put something in the next newsletter?

Just noticed that I joined July 28, 2002. So long ago, but so glad joined. Learned so much from this site and it has saved my butt so many times I've lost count.
Thanks Mark for starting this site, and to everyone here who has helped me in the past. Made so many great friends on here.

Just wondering if there are any forum members from the American North-East / Eastern Canada (Québec, Ontario) that...
1. Might like to meet or... 2. Are planning to attend, or present at, any tech event in this "part of the woods".
???
For example, I thought (though despite my googling cannot find the reference) Rhonda was going to present something (MDS?) in Montréal this fall. Unless it was last fall.
Anyway, it does seem like a shame to have interacted with some of you for so long and not have had a chance to meet in person.
As the sole IT person where I work, it's often difficult for me to get away for any length of time, especially when school is in session but after having participated in this thread, I thought I'd ask if there's any Minasi Forum folks in the vicinity. You can email me (see profile) if you prefer.
And yes, I should really try to get down to VB one of these years. |

Bit late to this party thread. Thanks to everyone who has ever helped me out on a techie problem over the years I've been on this forum. It really is one of the best technical resources out there on the web. There's some great names on here, truly great, and it's a privilege to be a part of it.
Thanks again to everyone on here who contributed their hard earned cash to our fundraising page earlier this year when our son James was stillborn. That remains so very humbling, and I can't express my gratitude enough.
Here's to the coming years and to the challenges they hold.

Getting down to VB is the best way. At other events we are VERY BUSY, so it cuts down on association time.

| Stumbled upon this site trying to get WDS working, and have not looked back, Thank you to all who have helped me along the way. Mark I still have not given up on PowerShell, and have not touched the GUI yet... Exchange 2010 recently deployed and I'm begining to see how important PowerShell is so thank you for the very enjoyable class in Phoenix not to long ago. Hoping to make it to a reunion it the not so distant future so I can finally put faces to names. One of my techs was searching the web about some random issue and he tells me, "Hey, One of the hit's I got was from that Minasi site". I just smiled, and said yea, thats how I found it too. |

I just checked, I cannot believe I joined this forum all that time ago. 2002, when profits could still be had.
I also would like to thank the many people here, and not forgot those that are not here anymore as well.. Romath... Ron... legend of a chap, and someone who's family are now pretty much part of mine. (Godmother to my kids). As a direct result of this forum, MVP, fun times with many, a new family friend in Canada, a holiday to Canada, a broken leg... the list goes on...
All of that would not have been possible. So thanks ;)
