Its a bit quiet in here but I just wondered if anyone can remember how to start the networking when it's missing from the control panel?
I have to connect to this PC using a x over cable and pull data off then install 2000 or XP and replace the data, I cant take the machine offsite to do this USB does not work and I have 1Gb of data to restore. The PC is a Dell Optiplex GX260 so why some muppet put NT4 workstation on is beyond my reasoning. Also any tips on NT4 and x-over cable problems I might have

I can't confirm that as I'm now back on my onwn site and there is no internet access on the site where the machine is (Real Stoneage!) Is there a run commant to open a console in NT4 ? I've got to go back tomorrow and try again. 0_o

yes the networking had apparently be used at some point. The PC originally had XP installed but the wiped it and installed NT4 (Eeeek!) just because the where not sure if wintime worked with XP, of course it does but they obviously did not bother to ask wintime support !??
Thanks guys but I have now discovered that this PC was configured using a standard config used by the national support service we use for part of our systems. It's locked down, even the BIOS is password protected and the PC itself belongs to them and not the site as I was first informed (yes I was a little upset!). I was given the impression that it was a streight forward new install but of course nothing is that simple. Thanks again
