I've been using my HP SmartMedia 475 server for a few weeks, been fine until today.

Upon trying to start the Server Console, enter password, I get a popup that it is not available. I can browse the shared folders, the server is on-line.

I'm using COMODO Free firewall, edited the rules for the WHS Connector from ALLOW to ASK to see if the rule is even getting triggered. To my surprise it is, but points to an external IP and not my internal 192.168.1.xxx addresses.

The Blue WHS Connector screeen asks for the password. Upon clicking the arrow next to the password, the firewall prompts me to allow a connection to 92.242.144.10 Port 5500.

I wasn't expecting that.

1) I'm unable to logon.
2) Shouldn't it be trying to reach the local internal IP of my WHS?

Thanks.

That IP address belongs to http://www.barefruit.co.uk/

There is some information about Media Smart & firewalls below which you probably already know but take a look anyway.

Thanks. It seems to be able to get passed the firewall, that is not the problem. The problem is the address it is trying to reach is not even an address on my network.

Anyone know where the WHS Connectors saves the IP address of the WHS Server it is associated to?

I had the same problem, and it may be your internet provider. My provider routed all of my traffic through one of their servers. To fix this I ended up setting up my own DNs server internal to my house and a WINs server and eventually ended up changing providers (road runner service is a little notorious for this).Obviously that may be a little overkill (but you do have a 2003 server that you can install DNS and WINs on thanks to having a homeserver) you could always go old school and setup your lmhost files\host file to point to your local homeserver's IP.

Perfect, I added it to my hosts file and instantly started to work. Not worth the effort of setting up a DNS server. Thanks.

I am having a similar issue, except I also can't connect via remote desktop and I don't have any data showing for sure that my console is trying to connect to the wrong IP. But I've tried to edit the host files and I don't think it worked. Anybody have ideas or more specific directions on how to go about editing that file, or is there more than just the one file in the system32 folder?
