I got early this morning and finished my writing,so I decided to check my email. I clicked on a link to a trusted wbsite and my spyware blocked the site and gave me the following error message:

exploit rogue spyware scanner (type 805)

But a couple of days ago, I had a problem with the same link that brought me to a psuedo scanner, I closed IE, and immediately scanned my system, no harm done. Has anyone heard of this spyware or is it some generic terminology the industry uses. I emailed the company and informed them of the issue, but should I be worried that my puter is compromised?

You didn't mention the site that was blocked but I would download, update & run anti malware from malwarebytes.org

I got exactly this reported to me by AVG 8.5 on an attempt to google 'winimage' and then click the 'Download' sublink (URL behind the link was correct).

Going to the main page and klicking Download from there (same location) worked.

Hi Don:

Ok, I downloaded malwarebytes as you suggested and there were 26 registry keys infected that the scan fixed; then something else showed up; a nasty little trojan called Vundo. Apparently it has replicated or I have picked this twice as is evidenced from the post of the two weird experiences. So, Malwarebytes ahs it quarantined, but my research shows that this is a complicated removal process. I am not the most savvy person when it comes the inner workings of the registry, can someone talk to me like I'm 3 and help me with this thing? BTW: I was using an APP created by worldvitalrecords.com; they are geneology site that created an app on many social networking sites, facebook being how I must have picked it up. Never had facebook for this very reason and then got talked into it by my cousin....I guess I can send him the clean up bill!

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

If you aren't using netzero, delete it. Delete that facebook garbage along with the activeX stuff from akamai. The rest looks ok. If you are having trouble with the app from worldvitalrecords.com , paulballen@gmail.com is the person to contact. Symantec has a Vundo removal tool if you want to run it but it appears that anti malware has it under control.

Hi Don,

Thanks you for your help. I really really REALLY appreciate it. I hope you are out doing something fun this fine Saturday night!

I did re-run a full scan this morning and the report by malwarebytes is clean. I'll go delete those items you suggested.

Thanks again,
Jen

AS you can see, I'm not out but that's ok. I prefer to go out in the middle of the week. Weekends are for amateurs.
