We are looking into getting monitoring/performance tools for Exchange 2007. So far I was able to find 3 major software/applications:
  • Exchange pack with System Center Operations Manager 2007
  • Mailspace by enow
  • Quest's Spotlight on Messaging and MessageStats

Quest is way to expensive for us. Have you guys worked or implemented enow's Mailscape anywhere yet ? Does it provide you enough information to monitor and troubleshoot your Exchange problems ?
I will be testing it and System Center with Exchange pack myself in a next 1-2 weeks but would like to have some feedback from seasoned Exchange experts on these 2 softwares.

I work both with Mailscape and SCOM. Both are good, but mailscape is far more easy to setup and get things going.
Both product must be tweaked a bit to set threshold levels to your environment. Once again this is far more easy with mailscape.

So I go for Mailscape any time, it's cheaper, easier to tweak and amanage and has a tremendous reporting module to create all kinds of reports that you can think of, not just the built-in but its very easy to create your own reports.

Thanks for the input Lasse. The mailscape is up and running but I am on a vacation at the moment. I will take a look at the data it gathers and its capabilities next week, once I get back to work.

Ronnie,

First, let me welcome you to the Minasi forum (I see it's your 1st post).

Since Isaac last posted on this thread almost 1 year ago, he might not have any reason to have continued to follow it - and see your question.

You could send him an email (click on his name, there is a way to send a quick email to other forum members).

JSCLMEDAVE Thank you for the email.

Ronnie, we did a trial run of the Mailscape, and I did find it pretty useful for Exchange environment. The guys from Mailscape usually got back to us within 15-60 minutes whenever we had a question or two.

The software was very easy to install, and use, reports are customizable to a certain degree. You can get the same reports if you know your ins and outs in Exchange, but this solution provides you with a panel to see what is going on CURRENTLY.

Why we did not purchase it: a) “storm” passed us by and management decided that its not worth the price any more b) it was missing some sorting options; A-Z, Z-A, Max-Min (minor to me, but major to my management) at the moment – they were supposed to implement it in the next version though.

I would suggest contacting them and asking for a trial.

I have the trial now and I have found it to be extremely helpful with the additions of lync, sharepoint, and sql monitoring and reporting added as well. I just wanted to get a second opinion of two about it.

Thanks Isaac
