System does hard reboot every 2 hours, each time I log into the machine it says the previous system shutdown was unexpected. Not sure why this is as it seems to affect only this machine on the network.
That's about all I have to go off of right now. :/

Backup software interfering with AV is a common one that I've seen.

Sounds like you are running in RDM mode, is it Server 2008 or newer? If so activate. If older you might have some script running. |

@wobble, no backup software or AV installed currently.
@Doug, This is W2k3 R2, I don't know what script would force the server into a hard reboot like somebody pulled power and put the cable back in.

Server diagnostics? Dell/ HP/ IBM/ something else?
The inevitable, what has changed? When last patched? What, if anything is in the event logs? (other than last reboot was unexpected) UPS gone faulty?

| It's one of those Sun servers ( I know, I know vendor recommended ), nothing has changed except maybe a few MS updates, in the event logs there's nothing leading up to the unexpected shutdown. The UPS if faulty would be affecting much more equipment however not seeing any issues with anything else at the moment. |

I had a server running APC's Business Power Chute on a stand alone UPS that was always going into Test Mode, and when the battery would hit 5% the server would shut down and when the battery was charged back up the UPS would go back into test mode and a 5% shut the server down again.
There were no events in the Server Event logs, because it was the APC Software doing all the work....I finally removed the APC software and just used the Windows power management systems. |

Wobble - That looks like the correct model number, I'll go through those docs and see what it might be. Thx!
Rastor - I removed the APC software on there while back but there could still be a part of it on there causing this issue, I'll have to go through the server again and see if I can find anything. |
