When a single user tries to expand a any Distribution Group they receive this error message.

Windows XP
Outlook 2007 - Cached Mode
Exchange 2010 SP1

I deleted their OST file, rebooted, opened Outlook and it rebuilt all the folders and OST without any issue.

The user is logged in and Email and OCS 2007 R2 is all working fine.

Using OWA the user is able to expand the groups without issue.

Using a test account I can expand any of the groups without issue.

This user, who is high level management, is the only one experiencing this error.

Microsoft Office Outlook
Cannot perform the requested operation. The command selected is not valid for this recipient. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.

Have you tried it in online mode instead of cached?

Getting ready to try that now and will also check their Connection Status and see if Encrypt Data is set and if they are using Negotiate Authentication or NTLM.

Thanks Jetze! That's in my saved site list.

One of the Disconnected server names is not showing the full FQDN like everyone else, also she is looking at an older server for some reason.

I am going to -

  • Check Host file for any entries
  • NSLOOKUP from their machine to verify DNS
  • Flush DNS Cache on her machine
  • Uncheck Cached Mode / Recheck it

Then go from there...

Encrypt Data was NOT initially set. I had set it prior to the screen shots. That was the only change made and now today everything is working correctly. It must have taken some time over the weekend to drop her session and re-sync throughout the system.
