We are trying to find a way to securely tranfer files between remote servers through firewalls. I'm looking for software/tools to do this - not necessarily ftp or sftp - and wondering if you guys have any recommendations?

Thanks! -cindy

Cindy,

Other than SFTP, your other options are encrypt the data and use something like Delta Copy http://www.aboutmyip.com/AboutMyXApp/DeltaCopy.jsp

Or maybe a VPN, site to site/ server to server.

Can you elaborate a little bit on exactly what you are trying to do? Automatic replication of sorts, or manually copying certain files - who's involved? Admins or regular users, etc?

We are trying to keep an updated copy of our website on our staging server to develop against. One of our clients just took us through a thorough security audit and "penetration test" (yeah, the guys around here giggle everytime they say that.) so we need to be sure copying everything is secure. It would be handled by admins. Automated replication would be the ideal.

Are the servers on the same domain? If so DfS replication over a VPN works great and is automatic. You may not want automatic though... If you don't you could always have a copy on the live server that replicates- then you just copy the live data to the backup copy which will then auto replicate to the dev server...

Hey Cindy,

I would recommend checking out Sharefile by Citrix. It basically encrypts files automatically to 256 bit SSL, and then allows you to email back and forth with outlook, while also raising the file limit to 10Gigs a piece. At the same time we provide a client portal and desktop tools to give you lots of easy options.

I'm a product specialist and I'd love to set up a web demonstration for you if you think it's relevant. Message or Email me! Hope this helps.
