I recently joined an XP machine to our W2K8R2 network and placed the user into an OU for management staff. The OU receives a couple drive mappings and a desktop icon that is a shortcut to these mapped drives. All of the W7 clients receive this setting withvjoy but the XP machine refuses and so I had to travel to the computer nd set both manually. Something I'm not doing?

You need Client Side Group Policy Extensions installed on the XP workstation.

And you have to pay attention to the types of OS's that some policies will function with.

Thanks for the information. I found the various CSE's an got them. Is it possible to deploy the CSE's via a group policy setting? That would certainly make it simpler.

Not sure. You can deploy with WSUS, though.
