Current version is 11.x (some .4, some .5 some .6).
I've been satisfied with SAV/SEP but:
1) Version 12 will run a intrusive (visible to user) scan sometime around 12:00 - 13:00 and even with Symantec tech support on the phone and using a Webex session, this could not be disabled. Tech finally gave up and presented it as a ... (starts with f and ends with e - can you guess? - 7 letters).
2) Looks like Sophos has educational pricing at HALF the price of a Symantec renewal.
So it's obviously something I want to consider.
I've read good things about Sophos on this forum but the "thumbs up" are a bit out-dated. I'd like some more recent commentary if I could.
1. Does the management system require changes in the Active Directory schema?
2. How well or poorly does it integrate with Exchange (2007)?
I've run across the same thing with SEP, it would just kill a users workstation while it did it's 'impossible to stop' scan. Gave up on it and went with Webroot. So far so good, but nowhere near the reporting features of Symantec. and is a bit different in concept. Such as you can't exclude specified folders and creating execeptions is a bit odd. But it doesn't kill the users system and so far, hasn't screwed anything up!
Sorry if this is too late but I love Sophos. I use their Endpoint Protection product which includes device control, web filter, app control, av, malware etc etc, as well as a new patch detection piece (patch rollout coming in next version).
