I made sure each print queue had the “everyone” group added with the relevant permissions.
My printserver is on 172.26.210.254
My laptop, to which I am trying to add one of the printers above is on 172.26.4.x. This is a windows 7 laptop.
There is a “firewall” on the .208 subnet.
I have had all the relevant firewall rules applied( I hope).
I can print without any problem from the printserver to the printer queues above.
On my windows 7 laptop, when trying to add one of the printer queues above, it keeps saying the printer cannot be found. My windows 7 laptop has Symantec endpoint protection running.
Do you have the Print Server role installed on the server? Have you turned on printer sharing on the server? Do you have the correct driver type installed in the print server (32 bit and/or 64 bit) Do you have admin rights on the laptop? If not, does group policy allow you to download and install drivers?
Just some basic stuff to check out first, the ability to download and install the driver for standard users is something rather new in Win7/2008
What would Clark Kent do to someone who stole his identity?
It's a Print Server. So,I assume the print Server role is installed. How do you turn on Printer Sharing? Assume I don't have the right driver. Will that stop me from seeing the printer queues from my laptop when trying to add a printer. Yes, I have admin rights on the laptop. Don't know if I have Group Policy set up.
Why is it I can print from the Print Server to the physical printers on the .208 subnet and not be able to add a printer to my laptop on the .4 subnet? I have the WINDOWS FIREWALL running on the PRINT SERVER. Should I turn off the FIREWALL? Should I turn off the FIREWALL SERVICE ON the SERVER? Will having SYMANTEC ENDPOINT PROTECTION running on my laptop cause an issue? When setting up the PRINTERS on the PRINTSERVER, I ticked the little box that says "List in Directory". What does this mean?
