11/24 Update
Everyone:
We have finalized the dates and venue for Minasi Con 2013 (Sunday May 5th to Wed May 8th, 2013). Todd Lammle has agreed to help us out in locating a venue.
The good news: the cost to attend will now include the cost of the hotel room, which will be a significant savings (about the same cost for the conference in 2012, but you won't have to pay for your hotel room separately). As the cost of the hotel room will be bundled in, this will save at least $300 - $400 vs. 2012 and prior years.
Todd has an arrangement with a hotel in Dallas where he runs his classes so he can cut a screaming deal which includes a conference room. In addition, the hotel is very close to other eating and drinking establishments, so if we get bored with the hotel fare, there are other options, but you will not need to have a rental car to get to them (another cost savings).
As a result, however, the 2013 conference will occur in Dallas rather than Virginia Beach. As Dallas is a major airline hub, this is also a plus for our international attendees or anyone who has to fly in to attend (most of us).
As Mark said at the end of the 2012 conference this year, let's get bigger in 2013. Once we announce the conference dates and details, please invite a friend. Final details will be posted by early December, with a very preliminary speaker lineup.

Wow, interesting. So no car needed. So what is the name of the hotel?

In the past we had a website for the conference I think it was on WordPress (minasiconference.wordpress.com). But both in 2010 and in 2012 the contractor business sites I have been at, they block WordPress and a couple people that I had sent the link to, they also shared with me that it was blocked at their place of work as well.
Will there be a website that I can forward to get others interested in taking a drive with Mike and me to Dallas this year?
Could the web link be hosted in a way that it is not being blocked due to it being on WordPress and WordPress being in some default content filter group that is blocking all sites of its type?
If a site is create for use and do registration from, when and how soon?
Would like to get others interested in joining the conference from our area of the country and get them to Dallas. The look / design of the WordPress site was nice, but many IT people will try to get their company to pay for the conference and if the boss is not able to see the website, I am sure that same boss or manager is not going to do a lookup of the conference from home at night for employee approvals.
Just some rambling from an IT Gnome in the MidWest... |

Chris-
Thanks for the feedback on Wordpress, was not aware that it was an issue to get access to it.
Final details on registration will be available shortly, JamesNT is working on it as we ponder these questions. As far as registration, we'll have to work something out if Wordpress is not an option, contact Joe, James, or myself offline and we'll make sure you get taken care of.
As I've indicated, we are doing a joint arrangement with Todd Lammle this year (hence the Dallas locale). In order to get his screaming deal on the room/conference meeting place, we'll have to process payments through him, but I think that you'll be able to submit payments/registration (and get a confirmation) from Mark's website, as we have done in the past. Stay tuned for final details.

Going home and using my own network without a content filter blocking me has not been a problem, because I do not want to miss being at the conference. Just makes it tough to create interest from local IT people when WordPress has been blocked on them and expecting them to remember to forward to their home to view is an added step that could keep one more person from being with us at the conference.
Just thought I would share what happened to a couple of people I invited last year when I sent them the link.
I for one appreciate all that is done for us to have such an event to go to. |

Yeah, haven't seen costs.Specially since the costs, if I read the top note correctly, includes the hotel room. So we don't book the hotel separately? If we book from the link on the website, whenever that gets put up, does it automatically book the hotel room? How does that work?

Everyone:
This time around the fee INCLUDES the conference and hotel, and quite a few meals. The only other major expense should be travel.
To get the rate, you need to use the link/contact info on the minasiconference.com web site. DO NOT book through the hotel, as they will NOT give you the conference rate. Todd Lammle has a deal worked out with the hotel because he runs all his classes there.
Go here for the full details:

Reading the website, it says that:
"NOTE: If you are coming in a day early and/or leaving a day late, the cost is $150 per night, everything is included as stated above, but extra nights must be paid up front."
So I assume that covers if you are coming in on the Saturday and leaving on the Thursday. But what if you are staying in Dallas until the weekend? Do the Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights need to be booked through the hotel and at whatever their regular rate is for those days?

James can we mention that on the Registration Page to make sure if you are arriving early too book those nights at the same time in order to get the forum meeting rate..?
Tim
It’s $150 a night, all-inclusive
Todd
I’ll add this as well. “If coming one day earlier and/or leaving one day later, it’s $150 per night in addition to the $600.” James

@Anthony,
Unless something drastic changes, I can't make it this year. So no shots for me at all!

Dave, my question wasn't about the "...one day earlier and/or leaving one day later..." it was more about if I'm staying in Dallas until the Friday or Saturday (depending on when the cheaper flights are to get home), which is more than one day later. Do I contact the hotel directly for those extra days? Or do I still do the booking on the Registration page for the extra days beyond the Thursday?

Perfect. Thanks. Now I just need to verify whether I'm able to go or not. In Virginia Beach, I drove down so it minimized my costs greatly. In Dallas, the cost of the flight is adding about $600 to the trip, not including the extra hotel nights.

As much as I hate to say it, I might not make it this year either.
Around new years this year my wife fell down late one night while at home and hit her head and was knocked unconscious. I had to call 911 and have her taken to the hospital. The next day she developed a brain bleed and seized and almost died. In the hospital during the seizure, she had one pupil totally dilated and one as small as a pinhead - according to the doctor at the time, this usually indicates brain death. Before her surgery the neurosurgeon had me calling relatives and told me I might need to decide on removing her breathing tube after her surgery. Miraculously she has pulled through it all unscathed except for a shaved head and a big scar, but since she has had a seizure - she cannot drive for six months.
Right now, I just cannot be out of town for that long. Unless something changes with her driving I'm not going to be able to do it. I hope to see you all next year. |

| It was the worst day of my life. Got married at 21 and I've been married 21 years - I don't know anything else. I was not looking forward to telling my 8 year old son his mother was dead. You get a new perspective on things that's for sure. There is still a slight chance I could come - but it's very much in the air as of right now. |

We have a conference call this weekend to determine moving the conference to another date. There is too much going on in the Spring with other competing conferences.
Stay Tuned.
