I have to shut off the firewall, do the install and then turn it back on.

Then all "SEEMS" ok.

We will see.

Did you see alot of errors (via Event Viewer) after this install? I have set it to exclude EDB, LOG, files etc. But I am still recieving errors from Symantec trying to access the extensions that I have excluded.

I have the users in their own folder as is the servers and one for Admin.

This is not a major concern, yet. I have to sift through all of this stuff when I am looking at the logs in the morning.

SP2 breaks the Avaya (AT&T PBX) Integrated Messaging System client that runs on each workstation. (allows you to listen to your phone messages through Outlook)

Here's the fix: http://support.avaya.com/elmodocs2/ip_office/emea/emea_techtip_049_Windows_XP_service_pack_2.pdf

There is a slick batch file included that uses NETSH to open the 6 ports that it needs. Even if you don't use Avaya, you may want to review this script....

- We've some other junkware that we're probably the only custmoers for that doesn't work on SP2 clients.

At this point, any vendor who has not tested/certified with SP12 just has no excuses. The beta was easilly available. The pack has been on general release for months now. These junkware vendors really tick me off.

You could also use group policy to do that

Yup. Here's how to do it for those that are not familiar with Group Policy or the new Windows Firewall: http://ebrux.mvps.org/xpsp2/XPsp2withIPOfficeApplications.htm

Hope this helps.

Anybody have any luck getting the "Remote Install" of InocuateIT to work w/ XP Clients that have sp2?

I'm getting this error in the Remote Install application:

Installation failed: The RPC server is unavailable. (1722)

The rest of InocuateIT is working fine; the clients are receiving the updates, and nothing else seems to be out of order.

CA (once again) doesn't have any good KB articles on this.

Any ideas out there?

Found the solution:

http://spaces.msn.com/members/gunas01/

All can be done w/ Group Policy. No "PC visit" necessary...

You have to make sure that on XP clients, port 42511 is opened on Windows Firewall. For the complete list of prerequisites: http://spaces.msn.com/members/gunas01/Blog/cns!1p3xwYXIB5Did6eMdBvxqD6Q!181.entry

The ALPS MD1000 printer driver included with Windows XP will no longer work in SP2 or SP3, and Microsoft offers no updated driver on Windows Update. Other ALPS printers may also be affected, but I only have an MD1000.

The ALPS MD1000 printer driver for Windows 2000 from ALPS will work with XP SP2/3, but it is hard to find since the driver was never offered for download by ALPS.
